Yokai Namikozo “波小僧” #35
The Namikozo is a traditional Japanese ghost from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
Caught in a net set by a fisherman in the past, the wave boy said that if he could help,
he would warn the fisherman of the weather with the sound of the waves.
The fisherman released the Namikozo, and he has been telling the weather ever since.
If a mysterious sound like a rumbling of the earth is heard from deep within the waves from the southeast, it means rain, and if it is heard from the southwest, it means sunshine.
波小僧は、静岡県に伝わる日本の伝統的な妖怪である。
昔、漁師が仕掛けた網に引っかかった波小僧は、
もし自分が助かるなら、波の音で漁師に天気を知らせると言った。
漁師は波小僧を放し、以来、波小僧は天気を告げるようになったのだ。
波の奥から地鳴りのような不思議な音が南東から聞こえたら雨、
南西から聞こえたら晴れを意味する。
